Organic Fruit bags/box

Click for organic vegetable box scheme

Reading and Oxford Community Supported Agriculture

We introduced this early in 2001 as we have had a lot of requests from customers for it and it is very popular.

The contents

Will at this time of year all be from other European organic producers, primarily Holland, Spain, Italy and Corsica. The only product not from the EU will be bananas from The Dominican Republic and some produce from Israel. All produce will come from Choice Organics, a long established wholesaler in London. It will all conform to European organic standards which are equivalent to those of the Soil Association. At some times during the year we will be using some produce from our own farm.

What will there be in the Bag?

As with the vegetables it will be a mixed bag, depending on the time of year and the cost of the products. We will choose what goes in and it will be done by value rather than by weight as we do with the vegetables.

A small size order will cost £4.50

A typical medium size order will contain approx.:-

500gm  apples 500gm  bananas for £7 Packed in a bag
250gm  kiwi 500gm  pears
500gm  grapes

A typical large order will be:-

650gm apples 650gm bananas for £11 Packed in a box
400gm kiwi 2 lemon
500gm  oranges 500gm grapes
1 avocado

We are conscious of the fact that organic fruit is expensive and we are trying to compete with the buying power of the multiples. Our prices are about the same as the supermarkets charge for organic fruit and we will ensure that they are certainly no higher. The real difference is in what happens to your money. With supermarket purchasing, less than 20% of what you spend goes back to the local community. With purchases made through us, over 70% of it is returned to the local community. This helps to keep the farm here going, especially in difficult times as at present, helps to preserve local businesses, provide rural employment and ultimately has a very positive effect on the environment both socially and ecologically. We hope that you are able to give us your support in the knowledge that the way you spend can have a very positive local effect.

How to order.

This will be done in the same way that you order your vegetables. Place your order with your local neighbourhood rep, no later than the Monday before delivery day, leaving the correct money. For most of you this will mean that you will place your order when you make your usual collection, therefore paying one week in advance.
