Buy Local
Introduction
Why buy local?
- Many of the goods we buy have travelled many miles before ending
up in our homes. Less fuel is used to transport local goods, therefore
fewer harmful pollutants are emitted from transport vehicles. Did you
know that a typical Sunday lunch could travel as much as 49,000 miles?
- Locally sourced goods require less packaging, so produce less waste
- Buying locally helps the local economy and local businesses
- If you buy locally, the produce will contain fewer preservatives,
which means that you will benefit from healthier and more nutritious
food
The Buy Local Group is looking at ways to help individuals and organisations
meet more of their day-to-day needs by buying locally.
