Results of Phase 1 of our Campaign
A fantastic response to Greening Wallingford
758 of Wallingford’s homes and businesses (24% of the community)
have pledged to reduce their carbon footprint by making small changes to
their lifestyles. This means that over the year we carry on doing the
Challenges, Wallingford residents will have saved 386 tonnes of tonnes
of CO2 and 398 tonnes of water. Small things really do make a
difference, when we do them together.
Wallingford has the highest initial percentage of the community, taking part
in the Greening Campaign, of any town in the UK so far, which is really
encouraging.
Sustainable Wallingford has concluded the first phase of the Greening
Wallingford and are now starting to work on Phase Two. The Greening Campaign
is a highly successful campaign that has so far saved hundreds of thousands
of tonnes of carbon and empowers each of us to make a difference to climate
chaos.
We asked each member of the community to commit to meeting at
least 5 carbon-reducing challenges, from actions as simple as turning
the tap off when brushing teeth, to the blood-curdling turning down of the
central heating!
We will be celebrating our ‘24%’ success rate on January 31st at
a community celebration in St Mary’s with a Bring and Share
lunch from 12.30 - 3pm. Come along bring some food to share. Celebrate with
us and learn about Phase Two. We will provide tea, coffee, soft drinks – and
more free cake !
The Greening Campaign is now being rolled out internationally. To find
