Sustainable Wallingford Provides Washable Nappies for Wallingford Hospital
Sustainable Wallingford have spent £2000 of award monies
from the National Real Nappy Awards on providing washable nappies for use in
Wallingford Maternity Ward. These monies were awarded to Sustainable
Wallingford for their successful ‘Washable Nappy Trials’ where new parents in
the Wallingford area are loaned (free) a bucket containing various types of
washable nappies for a week so they can see what it’s really like to use them.
“90% of people who use the trial pack say using washables is much easier, and
much less smelly than they thought!” says Sally Eccleston of Sustainable
Wallingford.
The new nappies should be available to use (free) to new
Mums staying in the Wallingford Maternity Ward from Monday 7th March.
“The scheme is designed to give parents the opportunity to try washable nappies
on their babies in hospital, so they are able to make a more informed choice on
whether to use washable or disposable nappies when they get home. In its
lifetime, one child using disposable nappies will produce a tonne of nappy
waste, which ends up in landfill, so using washable nappies, even for just part
of the time, can make a considerable difference” says Sarah Webb of Sustainable
Wallingford.
If you would like to borrow the free “Washable Nappy Trial”
pack for a week, please call Sally Eccleston at 01491 834780.
