Energy is central to all we do
We aim to reduce fossil fuel energy individually and in our community and instead capture and use renewable energy.
The group has actively promoted these initiatives:
- Solar streets, to help householders install solar panels
- Thermal imaging to reveal heat loss
- Energy efficiency; Insulation; Education
- Renewable energy; Independent advice
We have been involved in projects including the Greening Wallingford campaign, the thermal imaging study and the LEAF-funded Green Deal for Wallingford project. Generating more renewable energy is good, but saving it is better. Buildings take a lot of energy, and savings are possible by better insulation. Advice is offered by Low Carbon Hub’s Winter Warmer checklist.
The bottom line is that we all need to use less “fossil fuel” – petrol, coal, oil, and gas – fast. With political will, we could change our economy to a carbon-neutral one within a generation, and be healthier and wealthier as a result!
Our local council, South Oxfordshire, has declared an Ecological Emergency. It builds on the council’s declaration of a Climate Emergency in 2019, which was followed by a pledge to become a carbon neutral council by 2025 and a carbon neutral district by 2030.
